Our French Friends
During last years annual trip to Las Vegas, we spent time with fellow campers Manon and Carrol from Quebec. Our immediate attraction came after unloading the bike from our garage. We were all instantly interested in taking a ride together through the Nevada desert. (That was a blog entry from last year) Before we parted ways in Vegas, we promised to visit during our trip to the east coast.
We made good on that promise.
We looked forward to visiting our friends, and also realized this was our opportunity to drive through the "white mountains" during the fall. There is no possible way I can describe the beauty of our surroundings. Pictures cannot give justice to the colors. It was like one gigantic, never-ending painting.
We were not disappointed!
We stopped often, just to pause and look, and really "see" things. A simple bridge crossing framed yet another piece of art.
We've crossed the border to Canada many times while living in Washington, but never really felt like we entered a different country. This time we did.
We just drove the truck up without the trailer, and stayed with Manon and Carrol for an extended weekend. They pampered us, and made us feel welcome the entire stay.
Just hanging out and talking was enjoyable. Learning about the way of life in "French" Canada versus the "English" Canada we are familiar with on the west coast. We also reflected and appreciated again the reason we travel the way we are. It's the people we meet, the things we see and the experiences we have. Immensely grateful.
The BIG event was a trip long-planned to Old Quebec.
Everything in Quebec is French. They speak it. They write it. No english here.
Art and romance was everywhere. We stepped back in time.
We had a picnic with the city pictured before us.
Cheese, crackers, wine and grapes of course. Our hosts were thoughtful and deliberate in everything they shared with us.

We could have spent a week here easy.
We said our goodbye's too quickly, and planned to reunite next year - possibly in Minnesota - as it's a place they've never been and would like to see.

I'll close this entry with another piece of art.
This one hangs in our host's home. We had the pleasure of visiting the actual location in person : )
