Unexpected Trip Home
We really spent the entire 2013 winter, spring and summer in Spokane and Deer Park. That was a weird feeling...not moving about. Sometimes people experience a home sickness when they are away too long. I guess we experienced an away-from-home sickness : ) We found ourselves getting antsy and a little cabin feverish.
The great thing about being around home base though was spending lots of extra time with family and friends. We enjoyed that very much and still found time for side trips to Las Vegas, Glacier Park and our first bike trip to Canada with friends.
So, let's quickly back up to about this time last year (actually exactly this time last year : )
Just after putting Shelby on a plane back home, Sheila and I experienced a Holiday Season with two types of Texas snow. There were the natural cotton fields that looked like beautifully groomed rows of snow....

We never did get used to feeling like it was really Christmas in the warm Texas climate.
One very long story later, we canceled our plane flights and headed home for the holidays. Some challenges at home made it important for us to pack up the whole works and hit the road for Couer d' Alene and Shelby. Leaving Texas at the end of November, we figured to drive long days, to beat the snow. All was fine until we hit the Blue Mountains in Idaho. What started out as a little rain turned into one white-knuckle full on blizzard. The moment of truth was at the top of the mountain which was completely dark now and blinded by sideways snow. Semi-trucks lined up by the dozens installing their chains.
We had no snow tires or chains. We never had a plan for snow. Heck, we never intended to be anywhere near snow pulling the home behind us.
In the end, we inched our way down the mountain...without any problems.
A couple weeks later we celebrated Christmas as usual with Shelby in Coeur d' Alene...in the snow.
I'm going to leave you here with a close to 2012.

We were staying in San Antonio and flew Shelby out for my cousin's son's wedding. The wedding was held at a unique outdoor venue, very intimate and romantic.
This was Shelby's first time visiting Texas. So the Riverwalk was a must see in San Antonio.

...and the artificial kind blown over the crowds of holiday parade spectators.
