Summer Vacation is Over
This will be our second winter as we head south again. We know a little more this time around, and have already made our winter reservations just outside of San Antonio, TX. We'll be there a couple months and get the opportunity to attend my cousins son's wedding in November.

We spent this summer in Deer Park, at the RV resort on the golf course. We loved the RV park so much we decided to purchase a permanent pad there : ) We are now the proud owners of spot #120! We are already in the planning stages for adding a larger patio with a stone wall and boulders around a fire pit. We'll also add a large shed for storage and such. I guess this gives us a little "grounding" to our travels.

Of course one of the most important events of the summer?
Celebrating Shelby's 21st Birthday!
We also teamed up with BJ and Kevin (Davenport friends of ours that now live in Deer Park also) to throw a Bunco Birthday Party. These were pretty famous parties from our days in Davenport.
The pic below shows all of the Thomas's at table 4. Which for those of you that know how we play bunco is the WORST place to be : ) The baby doll you see here, is actually a ghost player. They take the place of an actual player if you come up short. This turned out to be one of the funniest parts of the bunco party! As the "creepy baby" traveled around the tables playing partner bunco. A great time was had by all.

Now that we travel full time, we are always looking for interesting places to visit wherever we are camped. This time it just happened to be in our own backyard. Once again, a place that was always wihtin an hours drive that I never went to visit while living in Davenport. Mt. Spokane.
I don't ski, so never had a reason to go up there.
What a great drive up the mountain...and even better time hiking around with Sheila and Shelby!

We spent a lot of time golfing, hiking, swimming and visiting friends and family. But summer finally ran out on us, and it was time once again to pack up and start heading south for the winter.
Sometimes we just have to pull off the side of road and take in natures beauty.

A few of our first quick stops included the Oregon Trail and Hells Canyon in Baker City, OR.
Think these sheep look real? The Oregon Trail Visitors Center was very cool. This was a multi-million dollar interpretive center created to tell the story of settlers heading west into the frontier. Struck close to home for the Thomas Travelers.
It was a very cold and blustery day in Hells Canyon and several hours later, we ended our drive very high up with an overlook that was overcast. You can't win em' all.
Further down the road we ran across a little trickle of water called Lake Powell.
Now that was a pretty view...
...and the lake was nice too : )

We are going to end this entry here. Still some packing to do, before we head out in the morning. Way behind on these blogs...our next two entries will include our trip to the Grand Canyon and Albuquerque for their annual balloon festival.
We had a heck of a storm last night that ended in a torrential downpour of rain and hail. The result was two shattered roof vents that needed to be replaced the next morning.
Until next time, I'll leave you with another artistic image. I love balance in my life : )
Thanks for reading!

yay! new blog posts! Love your pics (as usual) Can't wait to hear about the fun folks you traveled to the balloon fiesta with! :)
ReplyDeleteBummer about your vents. That must have been some hail!
